What Are Set Screws

A socket set screw is a type of screw generally used to secure an object within or against another object. The most common examples are securing a pulley or gear to a shaft. Set screws are usually headless (also called blind), meaning that the screw is fully threaded and has no head projecting past the major diameter of the screw thread., and come in spline or hex.

Set screws appear with a variety of tip (point) types. The different shaped tips have different properties that engineers can utilize. Options include; cup , cone and oval point, knurled, full dog and half dog.

For longer life, set screws are usually made of alloy steel, stainless steel or brass.
